The band Celtic Grass was started in Feb,1986 by Pat Rhodes
(Banjo, Vocals.) and Alex Erskine (Guitar, Vocals). After about six months it was decided to add a Bass to the Duo, So Götz Ahrens from Oldenburg SH was brought in to fill out the sound. It stayed in this formation for about a year. In the meantime Götz had been working on his Mandolin playing and was now so good that we decided it was time to get a new Bass player.
The band “Sour Mash” from Kiel had just broken up and their bass player Joey Kröger was free, and with a little persuasion Joey joined us.
In 1998 Alex Erskine decided to go it alone on a solo career ( he has four CD’s out now) so we had to find a new Lead singer.
One evening in our local session Pub (the IF in Lübeck) I met an Old friend Hanjo Kaßur and asked if he fancied the idea of joining us and
After a little thought (thirty Seconds) he said yes.
This formation stayed like that until February 2004 when we managed to get Volker Stoob (Fiddle, Mandolin Guitar) to join us. So over the years we’ve been getting bigger and I hope better. Our main interest is to have fun playing music and seeing and hearing the people enjoy what we play.
THE MUSIC:
We play a mixture of Bluegrass, Country, Irish Folk, Gospel, and any other kind of music we think will entertain the people.
We play a program from one To four hours so we think we should mix it a bit so that it dose not get boring.
